Whether you currently work in the insurance industry, or it’s an area you’d like to explore further, there is some basic knowledge and understanding that you may need to help you advance your career. One such qualification you could consider is the Certificate in Insurance (Level 3), attainable through completion of our insurance practitioner apprenticeship. Below, you can find out more about what the programme entails and what you can do with it upon finishing.

(H2) What is an insurance practitioner apprenticeship?

An insurance practitioner apprenticeship is a programme that combines both practical and knowledge-based learning to provide you with a core understanding of the insurance market. It can teach you key skills that will serve you well in the future, including an understanding of how to underwrite insurance policies, how to handle new claims, what regulations must be followed and adhered to as well as how car, home, health and business insurance work.

A series of skills workshops allow you to practise customer communication and ethical and professional behaviour, skills that will surely come in handy no matter what job path you choose.

There are some aspects of the qualification you can pick yourself, allowing you to tailor the course depending on the sector you work, or want to work, in or the areas of insurance you find interesting, such as customer service in insurance, underwriting, car insurance products, insurance broking and more.

At the end of the 15-month apprenticeship, which involves a final assessment, you’ll have attained a professional qualification known as the Certificate of Insurance (CII).

(H2) What are CII qualifications?

CII qualifications are those that are recognised by the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII). The CII is a professional body that offers specialised courses for anyone who wishes to pursue a role within the insurance and/or personal finance sector. When you complete a course like our insurance practitioner apprenticeship, you’ll receive a CII qualification.

(H2) What can you do with the Level 3 Certificate in Insurance?

The knowledge you take away from the insurance practitioner apprenticeship can be applied to all sorts of future job roles within the insurance industry. Whether you want to become an underwriter, an insurance broker, a claims handler or a customer adviser for an insurance provider, this financial service apprenticeship can open all kinds of doors for you. Thanks to its broad curriculum, it isn’t aimed at specific industries, roles or disciplines, making it the ideal course for anyone wanting to pursue a career in insurance.

The Level 3 Certificate in Insurance opens up further opportunities for education too. For instance, you could undertake the Diploma in Insurance (Level 4) next, which requires you to have first achieved your Level 3 or equivalent.

Alternatively, the course may provide you with a better idea of the industry you’d like to work in or the job role you’d like to undertake. Using the knowledge you acquired while doing your apprenticeship, you could remain in your current place of work or find an alternative job within your chosen specialist area.

We hope our handy guide has helped you understand more about the insurance practitioner apprenticeship and how it can impact your career within the insurance industry.
