Become an Apprentice

Give your career a head start with a financial services apprenticeship
If you’re thinking of entering the financial services industry, an apprenticeship is the perfect way to earn a qualification while also gaining on-the-job experience.

A financial services apprenticeship equips you with all the knowledge and skills that employers value. Whether you’re a school-leaver looking for your first job or want a fresh start with a new career, apprenticeships make great training routes for people of any age and stage of their lives.

Something that makes apprenticeships particularly appealing is that you earn a salary while also gaining a qualification. Better still, you don’t have to pay a penny towards training! The government and your employer will take care of that for you.

Benefits of an apprenticeship:

  • Earn a wage through real life work experience
  • Training at no cost to you
  • Gain a professionally recognised qualification
  • Learn Job specific and employability skills
  • Potential to progress quickly in your career
  • Avoid costly university fees and student debt

What is an Apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship is a combination of study and employment. At the end, you’ll have earned a valuable, relevant qualification and real-world experience. It’s a fantastic way for people with school and college qualifications to enter the workplace.

You may have heard the term ‘Trailblazer’ associated with apprenticeships. In 2016, Trailblazer Apprenticeships were put together by employers. These professionals decided what should go into the schemes for each of their specialist sectors.

When you study an apprenticeship with Simply Academy, you are enrolled on a Trailblazer Apprenticeship. You can be confident that you’ll learn industry specific skills and knowledge that real employers deem important.

The Mortgage Adviser apprenticeship is perfect for learners new to the world of mortgage advice looking to develop the knowledge and skills required to work within this specialised role, as well as obtaining a regulatory qualification. It’s also a great stepping stone for progression into other financial services roles.

Through job-based training and study towards a highly respected benchmark qualification, the apprentice will become a competent and confident mortgage adviser.

The Paraplanner apprenticeship programme is suitable for candidates looking to become a professionally qualified paraplanner within financial services. Designed as an entry level role, the programme aims to develop a professional paraplanner with no previous experience, or alternatively it offers a great next step from entry level Financial Services Administrator apprenticeships.

The apprenticeship structure is an excellent way for candidates to gain experience, confidence and a highly relevant qualification. Financial advisers who have gone through apprenticeship training are rounded and ready for a rewarding, challenging career.

Are there age limits for apprenticeships?

Although you have to be at least 16, there is no upper age limit for starting apprenticeship training. It’s a fantastic training option whether you want to enter a new industry or develop your skills later in life.

I already work in financial services, is it worth me doing an apprenticeship?

Yes! An apprenticeship is a great way to gain skills that are relevant to your existing job. You don’t have to leave your job in order to study and employers love them because they’re perfect for continued professional development (CPD).

How much will an apprenticeship cost me?

Nothing! As an apprentice, you won’t have to pay for your training; it will be covered by the government and your employer.

Would an apprenticeship actually help my career?

Yes. An apprenticeship offers a unique combination of real work experience, a salary and a professional qualification. This puts you in a great position to enter a new career or progress at your existing place of work.

What will my salary be while training?

As an apprentice, you will be employed while you learn and must be paid a salary. At the moment, the minimum wage for apprentices is £3.90 per hour, but many employers pay significantly more than this. As a guide, the typical Simply Academy apprentice earns approximately £250 per week.

What’s the duration of an apprenticeship?

The length of an apprenticeship has some flexibility and can be tailored to you. We’ll discuss how long your apprenticeship will last when you enrol but most apprenticeships with Simply Academy are 12-18 months.

Can I enrol on an apprenticeship if I’ve already got a degree?

The short answer is yes! You can take an apprenticeship at the same or lower level than a qualification you already hold, if the apprenticeship allows you to acquire new skills and the content of the training is materially different from any prior qualification.
