How to book a CeMAP exam
Mortgage Advice
23 July 2026
The Certificate in Mortgage Advice & Practice (CeMAP) is an entry level qualification approved by the Financial Conduct Authority that serves as a gateway to working as a professional mortgage adviser. It covers five units split into three modules, and you can study it in a way that suits your lifestyle.
Although you may think that taking on a course such as this could be overwhelming, booking a course, progressing through each stage and taking the relevant exams is actually a relatively straightforward process.
In this blog, we explain what the CeMAP qualification consists of, how you book your exam and where you’re able to take it.
How do I book my CeMAP exam?
During the process of booking a CeMAP course, you will be given all the information you need about the exams involved.
CeMAP is made up of three modules:
- Module 1: Financial Services, Regulation and Ethics (FSRE), split into two units, each a one-hour exam
- Module 2: Mortgages (MORT), split into two units, each a one-hour exam
- Module 3: Assessment of Mortgage Advice Knowledge (ASEW/SC), a two-hour exam made up of six case studies with 10 linked questions each
The pass mark for every unit is 70%.
Instructions on how to register for exams will be made available to you before your course starts. Fast Track or Live Webinar courses, delivered over two intensive five-day workshops, or a Self-Study programme you can work through at your own pace.
Can you take a CeMAP exam online?
Yes, you can take every CeMAP exam online, with remote invigilation, so there’s no need to travel to a test centre.
Is CeMAP equivalent to an A level?
In England, Wales and Northern Ireland, qualifications are split into a total of nine categories, starting with entry level qualifications and going up to Level 8 qualifications. Starting at entry level, these range through GCSEs, A level, BTEC professional diploma, Higher National Diploma or foundation degree, bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and doctorate degree.
The Certificate in Mortgage Advice and Practice is officially registered as a Level 3 qualification, making it equivalent to an A level or college qualification.
How much does it cost to book a CeMAP exam?
There are two separate costs to plan for: your course fee and your exam fee.
Course fees start from £575+VAT per module for our Classroom and Virtual courses, each delivered over five days. Module 1 (FSRE) is booked and studied separately, while Modules 2 and 3 (MORT and ASSM) are delivered together over a further five days.
Exam fees are paid on top of your course fee, and are currently:
- Module 1 (FSRE): £330
- Module 2 (MORT): £320
- Module 3 (ASSM): £160
If you’d like to save money, we offer two bundle deals: book all three course modules together and save 10% on your course fee (use code CEMAP10%), or book all three exams together over the phone and save £75 on your exam fees.
What happens if I fail a CeMAP exam?
If you don’t pass a unit first time, you only need to resit that unit, not the whole module. You’ll still need to sit and pass the resit within your original registration window (12 months per module, or 18 months if you registered for the full qualification), so it’s worth leaving yourself enough time to prepare properly before booking a resit.
What do I need on exam day?
Because CeMAP exams are sat online with remote invigilation, you’ll need to prepare your space as well as your revision. Before you start, make sure you have:
- A quiet, private room with a clear desk, free from notes, books or other devices
- A working webcam and microphone, ready for the invigilator to check your surroundings before you begin
- A stable internet connection, ideally on your own device rather than a work computer, which may have security settings that interfere with the exam software.
You don’t need to book a slot in advance. Once you’re registered, you can sit your exam whenever you feel ready, within your registration window.
