How to Qualify as a Mortgage Adviser

To legally provide mortgage advice in the UK, Mortgage Advisers must hold an FCA-recognised qualification, with the Certificate in Mortgage Advice and Practice (CeMAP) being the industry standard. Accredited by LIBF and recognised by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), CeMAP is a Level 3 qualification that covers key areas such as mortgage law, regulation, and advice skills.
Simply Academy offers two study options for the CeMAP mortgage adviser qualification:
Fast Track
Available virtually or in central London, the Fast Track CeMAP course provides an intensive yet flexible route to gaining CeMAP certification quickly.
Self-Study
Our e-learning CeMAP course allows you to study at your own pace, from anywhere, making it an ideal option for those with busy schedules.
Whichever study option you choose, you'll have access to expert tutors and high-quality course materials. Once you’ve achieved CeMAP, you can further expand your expertise by gaining the Certificate in Regulated Equity Release (CeRER), enabling you to advise clients on Equity Release products a valuable service for those looking to release property value in later life.
Important Notice:
As CeMAP gains more popularity, numerous unregulated training providers have entered the market and are currently promoting inferior courses through platforms like Google and Groupon. These courses might lack updated information or important content, and the companies offering may not possess the necessary industry experience or expertise to deliver CeMAP training. To learn more about the criteria you should consider while selecting a CeMAP training provider, we invite you to watch our explainer video.
Career Progression

Passing CeMAP opens the door to a rewarding career in Mortgage Advice and can also be the first step in a broader financial services career. Many Mortgage Advisers start by specialising in Mortgages to build their expertise, then transition into Financial Advice as they progress in the sector.
By studying a Level 4 qualification like the Diploma for Financial Advisers (DipFA) or the Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning (DipPFS), you can become a fully qualified Financial Adviser. Financial Advisers offer advice on products such as pensions, tax, and wealth management, opening the door to higher earnings and a wider range of career opportunities.
