Equity release popularity on the rise
1 March 2017

Recent reports show that equity release lending exceeded the £2 billion mark in 2016, up almost a third from the year before, according to statistics from Responsible Equity Release.
The growth is looking likely to continue in 2017 as equity release is becoming more popular with homeowners for a variety of reasons. Studies by equity release specialists Bower Retirement quarterly research shows some 38% of their advisers have found that homeowners are using equity release to help family members with deposits and bills.
With December 2016 seeing a rise in average UK house prices by over 7%, first-time buyers are having to find an average deposit amount of £32,000 to get their foot on the property ladder. With the help of equity release, homeowners over 55 years of age can release capital from their properties to assist younger members of the family in purchasing a home without having to sell up and downsize their own home.
When it comes to releasing equity, ensuring homeowners enlist the help of a qualified adviser to assist with finding the most suitable package is paramount. A trained adviser will be able to take into account your financial needs and advise you on the best possible options to suit your situation, giving you peace of mind that both your property and your best interests are being looked after.
